Jesus Is the Truth
A Testimony
by Randy Fry
I met the Lord in 1965 through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ on the Berkeley campus of the University of California. My girl friend (and future wife) had recently become a Christian, but she knew I would be a hard one because of my fascination with philosophy. What she didn't know was that in my studies I had come to the conclusion that I wouldn't even recognize the truth if it was written in big red letters in the sky and that I had become very despondent concerning my search for the truth [OH yes, I had come to UCB to find the truth! That was how naive I was!]. Historically, each philosopher over 2 centuries destroyed the previous popular argument(s) for the existence of God/goodness and then set forth their own argument. How could I, a mere student, possibly even have a chance of discerning the truth in the middle of this intellectual strife over concepts in a much larger battle for the minds of God's created beings. I felt extremely frustrated that my search for TRUTH seemed to be ending in emptiness. "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principle of this world rather than on Christ." Colossians 2:8 NIV.
My girl friend introduced a man to me from Campus Crusade who confidently said "You’re never going to find the truth written in any of those books (he had no idea of the sense of frustration and confusion I was going through, these words were from the Lord and they confirmed what I knew in my heart to be true when he said them), the truth is in a person, Jesus said … "I am the way and the truth and the life. …” John 14:6 NIV. This 180 degree paradigm shift greatly intrigued me. About a week later, with the Four Spiritual laws in hand, I challenged Jesus to come into my life and prove to me he is the truth. About a month later I was sitting on the edge of a hospital bed on the Berkeley campus and I saw a vision projected on the wall I was staring at [but it seemed to be only in my mind]. It was like a tapestry and here and there I recognized a few mental concepts I was familiar with in physics, chemistry and other disciplines It was as if he had knitted them together into a much larger piece of whole cloth, a truth mosaic. I could not even start to describe it and within about 20 minutes it disappeared. It had, without a doubt, confirmed Jesus' claim to me. I was able now to let go of those concepts with an overriding sense of satisfaction as I grasped onto the person of Christ. Several months later, what I now know to be a word of knowledge [one of several supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit] came to me. It was "there is NO solid matter; it is all concentrations of energy". The equation E=MC2 was really an identity statement by Einstein. What they [high energy physicists] were perceiving as solid particles was really a concentration of energy [Colossians 1:17 "... in him all things hold together." NIV].
I knew that physicists would keep finding smaller and smaller "particles" until they would come to the same revelation. I started to talk to some physicists I knew about this concept, but very quickly abandoned the effort realizing they were not ready to receive such things. I didn't have the credentials or the inclination to seriously assert such a theory in the market place of physics. Even if I were in a position to proffer this theory, there may not have been the tools to test or even reasons to consider such an extreme stance on matter. Within 30 years physicists had developed a "string theory” (actually several) which are based on rings of energy as building blocks for what we take as particles.
My point is that the Lord gives good and marvelous gifts to his Children first. Ephesians 4:8 NIV – This is why it says: "When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men."
My other point is that if I had been vitally connected to a body of Spirit Filled believers at UCB at the time this “gift” could have been passed on [from a “knee” so to speak to a “hand” in the body of Christ] to make better use of the knowledge of his creation. "... Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." Colossians 2:2-3 NIV. Even if the time wasn’t ready for revealing this “energy theory” it could have remained hidden in the body of believers until the fullness of time to be and credited properly to one of his children to the glory of God.
